Penny Arcade - The CCG?

August 5, 2005 - A quick update - This is a non-CCG CCG. I just got info (and if you read the text of the press release it infers this) that the game will come in a box - not as a starter and boosters.

It sounds a little incongruous to me, but Sabertooth Games (maker's of the Warhammer 40K CCG) have decided to create a CCG based on the popular web comic Penny Arcade. As a big fan of the comic I'd be interested to see what they do with it. Here's the press release:

(MEMPHIS, TN) – Sabertooth Games Inc.(STG), creators of WarCry: The Warhammer CCG (Collectible Card Games) and the renowned Warhammer 40,000 (40K)CCG, announced today a partnership with Penny Arcade, Inc., creators of the world famous Penny Arcade web comic. Details include introducing Penny Arcade’s main characters, Gabe and Tycho, into Sabertooth’s new Universal Fighting System (UFS) through one of Sabertooth’s critically acclaimed battle boxes. The Penny Arcade battle box will contain everything players need to jump into the action right away.

Designed and illustrated by Penny Arcade’s Gabe and Tycho, this set of cards was inspired by the hijinks of their legendary web comic. Everything from the “Divx” to Tycho’s “Really Big Word” is included in this set of cards, allowing players to reenact the epic battle of Gabe and Tycho. Erik Yaple, Head of Product Development says: “We are thrilled to be working with Penny Arcade. We see the characters of Tycho and Gabe as the Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer of 21st century.” "I've been playing CCGs from Sabertooth for years,” said Penny Arcade's Tycho Brahe. UFS features a unique system pitting players in one-on-one combat and features STG’s new progressive difficulty system, which means the more you do in a turn, the harder your later actions become. Play is simple, but remains interactive as players have a chance to block each and every move thrown their way. UFS is designed to support a number of characters from a variety of genres and other intellectual properties. Future announcements regarding other intellectual properties joining the UFS family will be coming soon.
