The Further Adventures of the Wed. Night 40K League

Last Week...

The Imperial Forces broke themselves on the chaos defenses and are forced to retreat out of Volsci rather than risk losing the progress they have made. The Imperials attempt an orderly withdrawal from the area as Chaos comes pouring from Volsci hungering for blood. The Imperials send one force to sabotage the demon gate. Leaving it intact would be a crushing blow. The Imperials still control the outlying utilities and leave forces at the generator to defend it so that proper rites can be performed to appease the machine spirit of the thermonuclear bomb.

Next Week...

We are playing Combat Patrol (pg 182 in rulebook).

During the Imperial withdrawal from Volsci Chaos begins probing along the Imperial borders elsewhere looking for weak spots.

For You Miniature Painters

I found this web page to be pretty interesting. It's a page that shows very real examples of how your perception of color can be affected by the colors surrounding it. There are three examples and they're pretty amazing.

Griffon Games' Next Auction

The next auction is getting close. In fact, it's next month! August 13th from Noon til 4pm.

The rules are as they have been in past auctions:

Bring in your stuff to be auctioned off between now and the auction (please avoid bringing things in on the DAY of the auction). We have a cap for the number of items that we'll include in the auction so the sooner you bring things in the more likely you'll be able to get your items in. We won't accept just anything. At this point we have a really good idea of what sells and what won't. We don't like wasting our time with things that don't sell. If we tell you that it's not going to sell, take our word for it.

On the day of the auction we'll let everybody have a chance to look over all of the items by having them out on display before Noon. Then, at Noon the fun starts. We can't guarantee when we'll put up any particular item. All bids are final and must be paid for at the end of bidding.

After the auction we'll calculate the sales for all of the people who put items in the auction. You will be given store credit for 100% of the amount of the final bid price of your items which you may use at any time and on any products in the store at any time. You do not need to be in store at this time to get credit. We'll just put all of the credit on the computer and you can start spending it the next time you come in.

In addition to the normal things that we have for auction we'll be putting up our castle table - that's a 4x8' gaming table complete with castle terrain - for auction.

The auction is a TON of fun so we hope to see you there.

Serenity (Firefly) RPG Preview

A couple of previews of the upcoming Serenity RPG have tuned up on those wacky internets.

First, head on over to RPG.net forums for a posting from somebody who got to play the game at the recent Origins game convention.

Then, check out the accompanying photos from the game. These include deckplans, the character sheets, and other interesting bits.

Hell, as long as you're that interested you'll probably also want to PREORDER the game from us to insure that you'll get a copy when it comes out in September.

Pre-Order Mage: The Awakening

Now that White Wolf has seen fit to show us what the cover of the new Mage: The Awakening book is going to look like we thought it would be a good time to post our new Pre-Order page for the game... which will be hitting our shelves some time next month.

You know, I've been slow to get on board with the new World of Darkness stuff but the more I look at it, the more I like it. This book in particular really intrigues me.

Interested in finding out more about the game now? Go check out the introductory scenario "Driving Angry". You can start playing the game now, for free! Then be sure to..

WizKids Announces new CCG

The Wild West was never as much fun as the betting-and-bluffing world of High Stakes Drifter! The hustlers, gamblers, lawmen, first nations, and outlaws have all thrown in their chips, and only those with nerves of steel and the right mix of skill, luck, and smarts will prevail! Combining elements of traditional saloon games and featuring photography and personalities from the Wild West such as Billy the Kid and Wyatt Earp, High Stakes Drifter is the first collectable card game (CCG) from WizKids and the first CCG that gets better as more players sit down at the table. Special kicker chips add just a pinch of luck, but the greatest bettors and bluffers will prevail in the dusty world of High Stakes Drifter!

Mykonos: Taking the fight to the Sewers

Chaos' pincer move has been thwarted. The Empire has managed to resupply it's city forces and the blood flows freely over the streets.

The Emperor will not accept stalemate. A new plan has been initiated. The main push will be throught the streets of the city aimed directly into the teeth of the Vile forces. A series of defiled bunkers are scheduled for a meeting with the business end of Lysander's Hammer.

Meanwhile, however, more surreptitious plots have been set in motion. Through extensive sewer systems beneath the city, an elite force of Marines is being dispatched to explode behind enemy lines.

However, unbeknownst to the good defenders of Purity and Faith, all is not as it appears. In the rapid back and forth of the current fight, an Imperial Astropath has been captured. He is currently being held in the gentle caressing arms of the Dark Eldar Lord E'ston. Blood has flown, screams have been coaxed and secrets pried forth.

In the few moments of consciousness left to this ill-fated servant of the Emperor, the plot to use the sewers has been exposed. An ambush has been prepared and a heavy dose of death awaits all below the city streets this coming week.

The missions are two: The majority of us will be fighting a 2000 point Bunker Assault with Chaos as the defender. Please, bring a 1500 point roster in case you need to pair up!
And then, there will be four players fighting a Sewer Battle. We have two volunteers for the Emperor's side and none for the Chaos side. Please check in at the store or call to step up and get the lo down on the special rules.

If a man dies that another should live, that man's spirit shall eat at the Emperor's table

Robo Rally is BACK This Week!

One of Wizards of the Coast's most popular board games ever is coming back to stores this week!

I can still remember the hours of fun that I've had playing this extremely "thinky" game. You maneuver your little robot through the maze trying to reach your goals before your opponents do. Unfortunately you can't go anywhere you like - you have a "program" or hand of randomly dealt movement cards to work with.

Looks like they've made a number of improvements to the game so it's not just a re-release of an old boardgame.

I expect to see this one get played a lot in the store.. assuming the copies don't fly off the shelves and into somebody's home before I get my hands on one.

Want to be sure to get your own copy? Order one NOW...

Sunday Pirates! Wrapup

The Sunday afternoon Pirates! game was a rousing success. We did a major fleet engagement with each of the five players using 100pt fleets on a 4x8' table. Last fleet standing wins. It turned out that Cooper had the winning fleet. It wasn't that his overall tactics were particularly good - his fleet got pounded as much as anybody's. What Cooper did was use the El Dorado's ability to grab ships and bring them to his home port to devastating effect.

In the end it came down to Tim - who held out pretty well througout - and Coopers fleet made up of the remnants of everybody elses fleets.

Next Sunday we're looking to do 40pt faction-pure fleets... so be ready!

No Warhammer FRP on Saturday

Due to a previously schuduled, work-related event I am not going to be able to run my game on Saturday afternoon. Sorry about not letting you all know sooner, but that's how things work out sometimes.

Tim says that his game (World of Warcraft RPG) may still occur at around 4-5pm Saturday if you were planning on playing that. Perhaps somebody else would be willing to fill in with something else during the earlier session?

Mykonos: Counterattack!

Warhammer 40K Club update:

The port city of Volsci is in flames. Battle rages on every block. In a bold strike, Chaos has chosen to split the Imperium's supply lines from the Marine-held spaceport. Should this attack from the flanks succeed, The Imperium's troops in Volsci will have merely a week to make headway or be pushed out of the city and lose much hard-won ground.

Next week's (7/13) mission will be a 2000pt cleanse mission using the Omega Rules, with the added twist of Chaos choosing after set up, whether it will be a Night fight or not!

Should Chaos prevail, The Imperium will have to defend the city with their backs to the ocean next week or be removed, their skulls added to the skull throne!

Mykonos: The cleansing continues!

The battle of Volsci is at its height. The chaos defenses have been smashed and the fighting is in the streets. To win the battle both sides must hold as many buildings as possible. Any building not in a deployment zone can be taken by moving a model into it as long as no enemy models are in it as well. Armies will be 2000pts and rules that will be in effect are Escalation and Infiltrate.

And so our Warhammer 40K campaign continues. In case you're not familiar, this is our WH40K club that meets after closing to do nothing but play Warhammer 40k on Wednesday nights. Chaos is once again reeling from another blow from the forces of the filthy...erm fals...uh Glorious Emperor!

If your interested, know that we only play Wednesday nights. There's no shopping, browsing or just hanging out. Fully opainted figures is preferred, but certainly not required.
