Preorder Warmachine: Apotheosis

Fresh from Gencon, this new supplement for Warmachine includes new Jacks, new warcasters, and moves the timeline forward. What does that mean? Who knows.. but you might be able to find more information on the Privateer Press Forums where discussion about the HORDES game is going fast and furious.

Remember, even if you plan on purchasing a copy of the book in the store the pre-order service is a GREAT way to guarantee that copies don't run out before you get yours. We don't charge you until the book comes in, and we won't charge you until you pick it up if you tell us to do that in the notes area of your order.

Privateer Announces New Game

I want to give the big Shout-Out to Ogrecave.com for bringing this video to the gaming public.

HORDES is the new miniatures game coming from Privateer Press. It's 100% compatible with Warmachine, but apparently has a different focus... since there are no Warmachines in it.

I don't have any more information on this new release yet but I will certainly post more info as I get it. Their new magazine is supposed to have a lot more info so look for that in the store soon.

Watch the Horde Announcement...

Addendum: I found a pic of one of the new minis on the Privateer forums. Check out this huge troll.

You know, if I'd just looked a little harder I would have found the actual marketing pages for this on the Privateer site. Go have a look at Hordes yourself...

Mykonos: the 40K Campaign concludes

From the outset, things looked bleak for the Imperials this summer on Mykonos. The Witch Hunter monastery remained out of reach as the forces of the Emperor were battered by their ruinous foes. Every victory was blunted by numerous setbacks.

Unfortunately for the daemonhorde, their warpgate was not yet ready. In the critical hours, the combined sacrafice of many of the Emperor's finest made it possible for the hammer and anvil teamwork of Commanders Dylan and Craig to destroy the all-important warp gate. Upon completion, a hasty retreat to awaiting dropships was followed quickly by the order Exterminatus.

Thanks again to Tyler and Craig for coordinating the 40k club's first campaign.

Success is measured in blood; yours or your enemy's.

Hooray for GenCon...

Because that's when loads of great games get released. Such as Rocketmen mentioned earlier, Hecatomb and Star Wars Universe from Wizards today! They're all in stock for now...but I don't see our supply lasting the weekend!

Another Shadowrun Preview

This time it's the Combat Mage character preview.

Wow the art is incredible. I will be picking this one up myself. I'm still trying to find a definitive release date but my best guess is that this game isn't going to hit store shelves until after Gencon (which is happening right now).

You CAN pre-order it with us if you'd like to make sure that you're copy gets set aside for you. Just a reminder - we don't charge you when you do your pre-order. We only charge you after it comes in. If you're local and are planning to pick it up just let us know and we'll set it aside for you. Pre-orders are a GREAT way to make sure that you don't miss out on the first shipment of a popular title.

More Shadowrun Previews

The new character sheet for Shadowrun 4th edition is now available for download. As is the new map of North America, and a sample character. All of these are available on the FanPro site.

FanPro is also holding a release party for Shadowrun 4 at Gencon on Friday. I guess that means that we'll be seeing it in the store shortly. It's that time of year. Gencon is new game time. ALL of the big releases are either coming out now or being announced now.

In any case, here are your links:

Rocketman is here!!!

Ok, I'll admit it. I was very skeptical when I heard about this new game that looks like some kind of Buck Rogers rip off.
I have just received our first shipment of Rocketmen: Axis of Evil and we've started tearing them open! And I hereby change my mind 180 degrees. This game is going to seriously be as cool as, if not cooler than Pirates! I think WizKids has another hit on their hands! Get in on the first wave...or wait until we can get a restock. I suspect these will sell out fast!

New Wizkids Boardgame

TSURO (heh! sounds like Churro) is the name of this new boardgame from Wizkids coming out next month. Looks like one of those "simple to learn, difficult to master" types of games that I like so much. I can't wait to get a chance to play it.

The TSURO website has the basic rules and a graphical wallthrough of a game. Very simple. Very interesting.

It's cool to see the new stuff that Wizkids is coming up with. Most of the time I feel like they're blazing trails for others to follow... of course in this case... um.. not so much.

Check out Tsuro...

Music Video With Miniatures...

I can't tell you much about this video aside from the fact that it's hosted on the 1stDecade Records site in Germany, it's a band called Northern Lite, and that the song is called Treat Me Better (I guess I could tell you more than I thought I could). The video uses miniature cars and a whole miniature landscape to play out a chase scene between cops and robbers. It's a LOT of fun to watch and I liked the music as well (your mileage may vary on this count).

So go head and watch the video....

What's Up With Decipher?

According to the article (linked below) people are lining up to sue Decipher, maker of the Lord of the Rings CCG, Star Trek CCG, and Host a Mystery games, for a variety of offenses. Apparently product isn't coming out and prizes aren't being paid. That company has been around for a long time so I hope that this is isn't as bad as it sounds...

Auction After Action Report

It's been about 2 hours since the auction ended and I'm still trying to recover. We had a full house and a lot of stuff to sell and we managed to do it all in our alloted time.

The largest item in the auction was the 4x8' fantasy siege table. That went for $50.

The most expensive item was the huge Warhammer Quest lot (2 full sets plus many extras) that went for $110.

The heaviest item was the huge collection of White Dwarf magazines (definitely two trips to carry that set out).

We'll be running our next auction in about six months. Two a year is about all we can handle.

Auction Reminder!

There are only TWO MORE DAYS until the auction!

That's right, it's THIS Saturday. Not a Saturday in September, not a week from Saturday, but the Saturday that comes right after tomorrow. Make plans. Get a babysitter. Have somebody cover for you at work. You do not want to miss out on the auction!

The Cuddly Menace

What is really going on with those cute little kids?

What secrets do these cold, dead eyes hold?

Are they here to observe, or to take over the world?

Find out by reading My Little Golden Book about Zogg.

You'll never look at a Golden Book the same way again.

Game Auction Update!

It was quite a weekend. Lots of new stuff showing up for the auction including a HUGE amount of new and classic Games Workshop goodies.

For example:

Back in the day GW released a number of boxed campaign sets for Warhammer. They were slim boxes with the scenarios and terrain pieces all together. I think that we have all.. or at least most of those in the auction.

Did you ever get to play Man O' War? It was the naval combat game based on the Warhammer world. COOL game. We've got that.

Ever wanted to try Epic Scale Warhammer 40k? We've got that.

Want to catch up on the last couple of hundred issues of White Dwarf? We've got that.

Need a copy of Hero Quest? We've got that too.

All of these things - and much, much more - will be at the auction this SATURDAY at NOON.

Penny Arcade - The CCG?

August 5, 2005 - A quick update - This is a non-CCG CCG. I just got info (and if you read the text of the press release it infers this) that the game will come in a box - not as a starter and boosters.

It sounds a little incongruous to me, but Sabertooth Games (maker's of the Warhammer 40K CCG) have decided to create a CCG based on the popular web comic Penny Arcade. As a big fan of the comic I'd be interested to see what they do with it. Here's the press release:

(MEMPHIS, TN) – Sabertooth Games Inc.(STG), creators of WarCry: The Warhammer CCG (Collectible Card Games) and the renowned Warhammer 40,000 (40K)CCG, announced today a partnership with Penny Arcade, Inc., creators of the world famous Penny Arcade web comic. Details include introducing Penny Arcade’s main characters, Gabe and Tycho, into Sabertooth’s new Universal Fighting System (UFS) through one of Sabertooth’s critically acclaimed battle boxes. The Penny Arcade battle box will contain everything players need to jump into the action right away.

Designed and illustrated by Penny Arcade’s Gabe and Tycho, this set of cards was inspired by the hijinks of their legendary web comic. Everything from the “Divx” to Tycho’s “Really Big Word” is included in this set of cards, allowing players to reenact the epic battle of Gabe and Tycho. Erik Yaple, Head of Product Development says: “We are thrilled to be working with Penny Arcade. We see the characters of Tycho and Gabe as the Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer of 21st century.” "I've been playing CCGs from Sabertooth for years,” said Penny Arcade's Tycho Brahe. "There's simply no-one else I would trust to do it."

UFS features a unique system pitting players in one-on-one combat and features STG’s new progressive difficulty system, which means the more you do in a turn, the harder your later actions become. Play is simple, but remains interactive as players have a chance to block each and every move thrown their way. UFS is designed to support a number of characters from a variety of genres and other intellectual properties. Future announcements regarding other intellectual properties joining the UFS family will be coming soon.
