Pogs Making a Comeback?
While scrolling through the pictures that Gamingreport.com has of the show floor at GTS I spotted a photo of a booth that seemed to be selling "Pogs". For those of you too young to remember this was a highly cerebral game where you stack up a bunch of cardboard disks, then pound the stack with your "slammer" usually a heavier, metal disk in an attempt to knock the cardboard disks askew. It was SUPER popular for about 5 minutes and then it disappeared in the early 90's I think.
Well, they seem to think that they need their other 10 minutes of fame...

And I just learned from my Hawaiian co-worker that the word "POG" came from Pine Orange Guava juice. The original cardboard disks came on the underside of the juice bottlecaps. The game was invented by poor kids who used to collect the disks because the manufacturer would print different pictures on them. When it became popular on the mainland your mainstream Hawaiian couldn't quite understand it.
Frankly, neither could I.
"You traded my soul for Pogs?"
"ALF pogs! Remember Alf? He's back! In POG form!"
Lol...I'm happy to say I never had pogs :)
I knew a guy who bought a pog maker though. It was rather amusing. He used to use old useless magic cards. He had an "Atog Pog".
The NEW pogs however look like they have some sort of skills, rather than just basing the pile with a slammer. Maybe something sort of like Clout?
I don't know, I kinda fell asleep as i was trying to read...
being the prime age for when pogs came out they where big in the time till the yoyo came out again. that knocked it of the shelves. But yes there is a new series coming out, well it is out in america. just not the UK yet. looking in my attick yes i still have all the old ones from 1994 and managed to get my hands on a full set of 60 from the new series. these old games keep on haunting.
