Elsie Hooper comes to Greenfield Games

Just a reminder, Bob Krzykowski, the creator of Elsie Hooper will be in the store tomorrow to demo his in-the-works card game based on the great serial. If you haven't already, bounce over to the site and check out the series. It's spectacular artwork wrapped around an adrenaline-filled story.

Then stop in Friday from 6pm to 9pm to check out the game and talk with the creator.

From the site: "Elsie Hooper is a black and white horror serial that began printing in December of 2002. The strip appears regularly in the UMass Daily Collegian. Since August of 2003, Elsie Hooper has been in the works as a motion picture in Hollywood, California. We'll see what happens."

Sci Fi Channel Announces Caprica

As a HUGE fan of the new Battlestar Galactica I was pleased to see this news blurb from the Sci Fi Channel:

SCI FI Channel announced the development of Caprica, a spinoff prequel of its hit Battlestar Galactica, in presentations to advertisers in New York on April 26. Caprica would come from Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, writer Remi Aubuchon (24) and NBC Universal Television Studio.

Caprica would take place more than half a century before the events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high-technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better.

But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot: a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the Battlestar Galactica), Caprica will weave together corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga, the channel announced.

New Premium Service from MTGMobile.com

Are you a fan of Magic? Do you love your cellphone? Did you ever think that these two interests would intersect? Well, now they do. A few months back Wizards of the Coast launched MTGMobile.com. A site where you can purchase magic-themed wallpapers for your cellphone. Now they've added a new premium service that includes spoiler content, trivia questions, news, alerts and exclusive polling -- all for $3.99 a month.

I know that the spoiler information by itself is pretty popular stuff. There are entire sites built around collecting it and disseminating it. If you pick up the service be sure to tell us what you think about it here or in the forum.

Spotted on the Road..

I don't know how popular the vinyl sticker thing is in Massachusetts right now but it is huge out here in California. Everybody seems to have either picked one of the popular standard designs (like Calvin peeing on something) or come up with a custom design of their own. Well, I had been thinking about doing something 40K related on my own car recently... and then I spotted this one. I guess I waited too long -- now I'll have to go with one of my WoW ideas.

Boba Fett Rap - The Video

You might recall the Boba Fett Rap song (from the talented MC Chris) that I posted a while back. Well, if this works then you can watch the video version of the song by way of YouTube.

STORE OPENS AT 10AM SATURDAY

To accommodate the hordes of HORDES players, Greenfield Games will be open an hour early so that players in the day's events have a little extra time to buy, build and paint their forces for the ensuing carnage.

Palladium Books Needs Your Help

According to this post on their forums, Palladium Books is in some serious financial difficulties at the moment. A lot of game companies are experiencing some hard times right now but on top of any industry-wide downturn in sales Palladium has experienced some sort of unspecified internal treachery that resulted in the loss of somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 million bucks.

I've had short period of being a fan of Palladium back around the TMNT days. I also used to own Robotech, Mechanoids, and their Vietnam game. I haven't had much use for them lately, but that doesn't mean that I'd like to see them go away. Their stuff has always had a wide appeal and that's something that the industry can't afford to lose.

So, if you want to help them out they recommend picking up this special art print. It's probably the most direct way to put money into their pockets that they can use to dig themselves out of a hole. Don't discount the value of picking up their products at the store either. We have a good selection on the shelf and Seth would be happy to order anything we may not have.

19th Century Vampire Hunter Kit on eBay

I guess I'm on a little horror kick today. Spotted via "BoingBoing" is this authentic 19th century vampire hunting kit. Just when I didn't think that I'd have $1000 to spend on something today this comes along.

The box weights 20.1 lbs., length 16.8 inches, width 17 inches, height 7.9 inches;made of linden tree with maroon velvet inside, six compartments. The items enclosed in the box are as followed: one wooden hammer (6.5 inches long), four stakes 6 inches-each) --- the wooden hammer has applied a small holy cross, same as the stakes; the lower side containing: prayer book, crucifix, knife and eight bottles with Pamant (holy soil), Agheazma (holy water), Mir (anointing oil), Tamaie (holy incense), Usturoi (garlic), red serum, blue serum and secret potion. We believe a romanian monk from Transylvania has created this box during the period of 1870-1890.

The Truth - Somtimes it IS stranger than fiction...

How weird is this? This Yahoo story describes a 300 year old book, recently discovered in Northern England, that is bound in human skin. Did you know that this practice was not exactly uncommon? According to the article it was a common practice to bind the trial transcripts of murderers with their skin. This was sometimes done with anatomy books as well. And here I only thought that this was done with unholy books of spells used to summon the elder gods to destroy humanity. Go figure.
