Want some Warhammer inspiration?

This is a trailer for the the upcoming Mark Of Chaos game for PC or something. In any case, rather than making me want to run out and buy THAT game it made me want to break out my Warhammer army and have a battle.

Oh, and if you want to see a cool, wide-screen, hi-res version of it (rather than the easy, yet ugly YouTube version) you can click here. Expect for it to take some time to download though. It's a pretty huge file.

Incoming Air Support!

Battlefront has released some notes on the new Air Support rules for Flames of War! It looks to be a lot less random, and actually something you can work into a game strategy. Plus, here's a nice look at the new plane models!

Colbert Report: D&D

This video is a little segment from the Colbert Report from when D&D Online first went.. uh.. online. It's a fantastic stream of D&D references that only the most hard-core of players will catch. Of course, my favorite quote is when he tells D&D Online players to "Enjoy your magnificent isolation!"

"Chaotic" is coming

Today's Wall Street Journal has an article about an upcoming TCG from the folks who created Yu-Gi-Oh! (4Kids Entertainment). It's called Chaotic. Now, this wouldn't really make news except for this bit...

On the bottom of each card is printed a special code that, when entered into the online game, gives you access to an online version of that card.

It's a pretty neat idea. Especially from a retailer perspective. Game retailers don't like the Magic Online so much because of the perception that sales of Magic Online cut into the sales of the traditional TCG. This ties the two games directly together.

The half-hour animated series that will be supporting the game will be out this fall. The game itself comes out early next year.

Flames of War Battlefield in a Box

In August, Battlefront Miniatures and Gale Force 9 will be bringing you (and by "you" I mean "us" because I am SO going to be getting these) the first two "Battlefield in a Box" sets.

If you check out the article on the Flames of War site you can see a bunch of photos of the first two sets - Eastern Front and North Africa. Pay close attention to the finish on them... because that's how they appear out of the box. That's right, this is pre-painted terrain.

No pricing is yet available on the sets, but the release date is 3 August. Initially the pieces will only be available in the sets shown but they may eventually release the pieces in smaller sets.

Go see all of the terrain photos...

Runequest Previews

Back in the dark ages, when my early gaming group and I weren't playing D&D there's a decent chance that we would be playing Runequest. The only reason that I can come up with as to why is because we were also fans of Call of Cthulhu and this used this same system... and yet it was a fantasy game. So, we'd get a familiar system to play our standard hack n' slash in an unfamiliar way. It was pretty fun. Of course, Runequest fell on hard times over the last.. I don't know, I guess about ten years or so. Now, Mongoose Publishing is bringing it back.

Here's what Mongoose has to say about the main rulebook:

Designed to bring the original RuneQuest up to the 21st Century, this main rulebook contains all you need to explore the many fantasy worlds possible with RuneQuest.

Attention has been applied to keep this main rulebook down to a sensible (and easy on the wallet!) 100 pages, while layout has been refined to make the book easy to read and fast to pick up, allowing players to comprehend sections of the rules with a mere glance - meaning less time flicking through the book and more time playing!

As well as character creation, the RuneQuest main rulebook provides full rules for skills, cults/guilds, combat, adventuring, monsters and Rune Magic, the first magic system introduced for the latest edition of RuneQuest.

Eminently expandable to any fantasy setting, RuneQuest is supported in 2006 by Mongoose Publishing with the Glorantha and Lankhmar worlds, while other publishers are free to introduce their own settings, due to the Open Content licence available for the game.

RuneQuest has come of age. Go adventuring with one of the most powerful and flexible rules systems available.

You can take a look at some previews of the book which will be out some time next month.
