Roleplaying 40K

When the Black Industries folks first announced the pending 40K RPG (to the surprise of no one) I was a little disappointed to hear that the first incarnation of these would put the players in the role of an inquisatorial retinue. This is probably because my only real knowlege of a retinue came from the miniatures game and I couldn't imagine wanting to be any of those misshapen weirdos.

Then... I read Ravenor. This is one of Dan Abnett's books and covers the adventures of inquisitor Ravenor and his retinue. It's great science fiction and I can completely see playing this group of adventurers. Not only that, it gives you a good glimpse of what a Rogue Trader setting might be like (which is the next game in the series). Each of the retinue brings something different to the group. They all kick serious butt in their own way. When they REALLY get into trouble Eisenhorn can take over their bodies and they immediately become minor super heroes. Cool stuff.

Now I'm going to have to go and find a copy of the Eisenhorn trilogy. Be sure to bug Seth to pick up these books for you if you haven't read them yet.
