GenCon SoCal is Dead...

This week we are announcing the closure of Gen Con So Cal. The last So Cal will have been the one we just ran in November of 2006. This event will not happen in 2007, nor is it likely to happen in the foreseeable future. The purpose of this letter is to share some of the background in this decision for those of you who like to know the behind-the-scenes scoop, including an overview of the last four years of the Gen Con business leading up to this decision. This is not “news”, see our press release for the facts. This is more like a blog entry, an open letter to anyone who’s interested in a brief history of the last four years of Gen Con, why we started Gen Con So Cal in the first place, and why we have to now abandon this effort. The next Big Game Auction is upon us!

What: Here's your opportunity to turn your old games into store credit for shiny new ones! Bring them all in. From role playing books, board games, CCGs and miniature armies to classic family games and even old video games; bring them in and have us auction them off for you! This is a great chance to pick up some great deals on used games.

Where: Right here in the store, 228 Main Street, right between Country Jeweler and Taylor's Restaurant.

When: Very soon! Saturday the 27th of January. Starting at 12pm and running about two hours.

How: We are accepting items up to the day of the auction. Anything that sells, becomes credit for you to purchase new items. If your stuff doesn't sell, you can just take it back. Anything you win a bid on, can be paid for right then and there.

So, be sure to come and join the fun, find some great deals and meet some other great local gamers!

New Talisman in 2007

Black Industries has announced today that they are going to be bringing back one of the most fondly remembered fantasy boardgames in October.

I'm talking, of course, about the game TALISMAN.

Talisman is a cult fantasy board game for 2 – 6 people. Players control a myriad of characters from a heroic warrior to a powerful sorcerer. In this perilous adventure, play centres around the journey of these gallant heroes to find and claim the Crown of Command, a magical artefact with the power to destroy all rivals and make the bearer the true ruler of the kingdom. Only with strength, courage, and wisdom will players be able to survive the ultimate test and beat their opponents to victory.
