Race for the Galaxy Back in Stock

In Race for the Galaxy, players build galactic civilizations by game cards that represent worlds or technical and social developments.

Each turn each player chooses one action, but the others will share in the actions chosen, each player secretly and simultaneously chooses one of seven different action cards and then reveals it. Only the selected phases occur. For these phases, every player performs the phase’s action, while the selecting player(s) also get a bonus for that phase.

That's the official line, but in the real world it's an incredibly addictive card game that seems to suck players in until they eschew all other activities. It has the ability to draw people in unlike anything I've seen before since Magic: The Gathering (and this isn't even collectible). The really interesting part of all of this is that it's not a particularly simple game. It takes a few plays to really wrap your head around it but once that happens, you're lost.

Anyway, the thing is that we just got this back in stock after its months-long hiatus from in-print status. Grab your copy before they're gone again.

A look at the auction list

If you're curious about what's going to be in the auction, be curious no more! We've taken the auction list and compiled it into a handy Google doc for your viewing (unlike last time you don't need to be logged into Google Docs to view it).

Remember, most of the items can be bid on right now at the store. Just come in and get set up as a bidder.

The items listed as "Live" will be auctioned off on Saturday.

Check out the list...

In-Store Auction - July 13th-19th

That's right the next Big Game Auction is upon us!

If we have your mailing address this should be somewhat old news. If we don't have your mailing address, you should be asking yourself two things: What's he going on about and why on earth have I not given my FLGS my mailing address?

There's a few twists this time, so pay close attention.

We are accepting items up until July 12th. On July 13th we will start the Silent Auction portion of this Summer's auction. All week, the majority of the items will be available for silent bidding. How that works is you come in, sign your name (or an assigned number if you prefer) and the amount you're interested in paying for an item. At anytime until closing on the 19th, others can come in and bid higher, at which point you might want to come in and outbid them. This gives much greater exposure to all items, without having to listen to Joe, Jay or me rattle on about every single item. Some items, the biggest & coolest, we'll be saving for a traditional Live Auction at 1:30 on the 19th. This leads me to the next twist. Minimum and starting bids on all items has been raised to $5. So, if you think what you're offering is worth less than that, we don't really want to bother bidders with it.

So bring your items in right away! Unlike past years, bringing them in the day of the auction will be too late. Come in and check out what's already been entered. Stop in from July 13th through July 19th to bid on things and then prepare for an excellent day on the 19th, where we'll be allowing for last minute bids on the silent items, running a shorter Live Auction AND having refreshments as well as the traditional gamers playing where ever it gets in my way the most!

  • Auction Lot submission deadline: Saturday July 12th, 9pm
  • Silent Auction: Sunday July 13th through Saturday July 19th
  • Live Auction: Saturday July 19th, 1:30pm
  • Silent Auction closings: Saturday, July 19th at 12:30pm (Roleplaying Games & Oddball Stuff), 1:00pm (Board & Family Games), 1:30pm (Collectible Games) and 2:00pm (Tabletop Mini Games)
  • Minimum/Starting bid: $5.00

Due to this new format, gift card payment may require a little more time to process. We may need to distribute winning credit the following week.
